AES Bulgaria donates BGN 2 million for a new stadium in Galabovo

In Galabovo, Bulgaria, on 11 December 2018, a groundbreaking ceremony for the new town stadium took place at a special event. BGN 2 million, provided by AES Bulgaria as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility program, will be invested in the project. AES Bulgaria President Olivier Marquette, AES Bulgaria Managing Director Ivan Tzankov, TPP AES Galabovo Plant Manager Todor Belezhkov, the Mayor of Galabovo Municipality Nikolay Tonev and the Regional Governor of Stara Zagora Gergana Mikova, inaugurated the stadium that will receive the name AES Arena Galabovo.

“Our mission is to improve people’s lives in the regions we operate in. I am very happy we are launching a new project in Galabovo, following the completion of the Youth Center renovation in the town and the reconstruction of the main road in Galabovo – “Republika” boulevard”, Olivier Marquette said. “This ceremony reminds me of my son, Louis, playing football with the team of “Botev” – Galabovo. He has kept his team outfit and is very proud of it. I hope that in a few years, due to the fruitful training sessions at the new stadium, the team of Galabovo will join the Champions League”, Marquette added with a smile.

“Every new project changes the town. Currently, we are working on several projects, but those implemented with the support of AES and the other investors in our town are in the focus of the public interest. The financial support we receive helps us further develop the sports in our municipality and motivates young people to stay”, Nikolay Tonev shared. He added that the Municipality has established a long-term fruitful cooperation with AES Bulgaria.

The renovation of the stadium will be carried out by the municipal “Public works and cleanness” company. The work will start immediately.

AES Bulgaria has invested more than BGN 14 million in CSR projects in Galabovo and Kavarna. Education, healthcare, sports and local infrastructure are the pillars of AES’ corporate social responsibility program.
