AES Bulgaria’s generating facilities – the most modern TPP in country “AES Galabovo” and the largest wind park in Bulgaria – St. Nikola, generated over 460 000 MWh of energy for the Bulgarian customers during the state of emergency in the country due to COVID-19. In the conditions of pandemic TPP AES Galabovo and St. Nikola Wind Farm secured to the country’s power system energy amounting to the average monthly consumption of around 1,8 million of Bulgarian households. Even in the period of crisis, the energy supplies from both plants were uninterrupted. During the two months of the state of emergency, TPP AES Galabovo and St. Nikola Wind Farm were operating in line with the energy system’s needs and the dispatcher’s instructions coming from Central Dispatch System, guaranteeing the energy security of Bulgaria.
AES Bulgaria undertook a series of measures to minimize the health risks for the employees’ during the COVID-19 pandemic. From the beginning of the pandemic the access of external persons to the power plants was suspended. An ‘energy workers’ small town’ for temporary accommodation was built at the site of TPP AES Galabovo. In case of a spike in the crisis employees who are directly involved in the power generation and other key areas of operations at TPP AES Galabovo will stay in the temporary premises for 2 weeks on a shift basis. Before entering the ‘energy workers’ small town’, all employees will be tested in advance with PCR tests for COVID-19.
The management of AES Bulgaria thanks all of its employees for their high professionalism and work discipline they are demonstrating in their daily work.
‘The COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet. Therefore, the measures taken on the territory of TPP AES Galabovo and St. Nikola Wind Farm continue. We are urging our employees to remain responsible for themselves and for the health of their colleagues, while continuing to strictly adhere to the imposed rules. We hope that everything will be over soon and that we will be able to return to the normal rhythm of life’, commented Ivan Tzankov, Managing Director of AES Bulgaria.
