The President of AES Bulgaria Olivier Marquette introduced the experts from Brussels to the key role of the power plant for the energy security of Bulgaria
A delegation from DG Energy of the European Commission led by Catharina Sikow visited TPP AES Galabovo today. The President of AES Bulgaria Olivier Marquette showed the most technologically advanced coal-fired power plant in the Balkans to the European representatives. ‘We are proud to run the most modern plant in the region, which has a key role for the energy security of Bulgaria’, Olivier Marquette commented.
The delegation from DG Energy is visiting Stara Zagora and Pernik today and tomorrow, to discuss the Green Deal. Policies proposed by Brussels aim at transforming Europe into a climate-neutral continent by 2050. The EC representatives had scheduled meetings with employers, trade unions, non-governmental organizations, and local authorities in order to guarantee the dialogue for a successful and just transition to a carbon-neutral economy.
TPP AES Galabovo is the newest coal-fired power plant in Bulgaria built for the last 40 years in Bulgaria. The 690-MW capacity provides around 10% of the electricity in the country. As a result of the responsible attitude to the environment and the implemented advanced technologies, TPP AES Galabovo achieves an average annual desulfurization efficiency rate of over 97%. The power plant is operating in full compliance with the environmental regulations and conditions of the IPPC permit. The power plant generated over 3.144 million MWh of electricity in 2019 and used 5,37 million tons of lignite coal from the Maritza East basin. This once again confirmed the key importance of TPP AES Galabovo for the energy security of the country.
