Mariana Gerenova is the new Complex Manager for all AES production assets in Bulgaria

As of August 1, Mariana Gerenova took over the position of a Complex Manager for all production assets of AES Bulgaria. She will be responsable for the operations of TPP AES Galabovo, the Waste Disposal Facility and St. Nikola Wind Farm.

Mariana brings 30 years of experience in the energy sector, 15 of which with AES. She was one of the first employees to join the AES Galabovo project in 2007. Mariana holds a Master´s degree in Thermal and Nuclear Energy from the Technical University in Sofia. She acquired additional qualifications in Brandenburg University of Technology, Korea Electric Power Corporation and Korea International Cooperation Agency and Darden School of Business, University of Virginia.

In 2008, Mariana Gerenova took over the Material Handling Department. From February 2012 to January 2020, she was responsible for the Engineering Department. Since last year she has been entrusted with the managerial position of Manager Performance & Asset Management for Eurasia.

For Bulgaria, coal energy is important, as the production of electricity from coal represents over 40% of the total energy mix. The Maritza East complex is very important because it guarantees the security of energy supply and has an essential role in ensuring the stability and energy independence of the country. We are also proud with our St. Nikola wind farm which helps Bulgaria meet its commitments to the EU for a share of RES in the total energy mix. It is also the backbone of the Integrated Early Warning System for Bird Protection in the region of Kavarna, which complies with the European requirements for the preservation of wild birds’, Mariana Gerenova commented.

Gerenova takes over the position from Todor Belezhkov, who dedicated 15 years of his professional life to the TPP AES Galabovo. ‘On behalf of AES and on my behalf, I wish a lot of success to Mariana Gerenova in her new position, and would like to express my gratitude to Todor for his professional drive and dedication.
