The renewable energy will make up the vast majority of new capacity addition globaly, due to the substantial decrease in its cost, said the Executive director of AES Bulgaria & Co-Chairman of the National Energy Chamber, Olivier Marquette, during the Sixth Regional Energy Conference, held on 19-20 September in Sofia where he was a key-speaker. Marquette underlined that Energy storage will play critical role in the development of renewable energy and shared the experience of AES which operates the largest fleet of energy storage facilities in the world.
Sixth Regional Energy Conference was organized by the Bulgarian Energy & Mining Forum. Its topic – “Energy Development in Southeast Europe: Energy security, sustainability, investments and growth” was chosen as a response to the growing interest in the Framework Strategy for a resilient Energy Union and a forward-looking Climate Change Policy.

He stressed that coal generation needs to be developed in the most efficient, effective and responsible manner taking as an example the state-of-the-art Maritza plant which is one of the cleanest sources of coal generation in South-Eastern Europe.
