St. Nikola Wind Farm marks a record February in terms of output
March 7, 2023
In February, St. Nikola Wind Farm marked a record month in terms of output. Last month, AES Bulgaria’s wind farm provided 46 472 MWh of green energy to Bulgarian consumers. This has been its highest February output since its commissioning in 2010. Last month, St. Nikola Wind Farm generated 33% more energy Y/Y.
St. Nikola Wind Farm is an important step towards Bulgaria’s objective of achieving a cleaner energy future and it substantially increases the country’s capacity to generate renewable energy. It is the largest wind farm in the country with 52 installed wind turbines with a total capacity of 156 MW. St. Nikola Wind Farm is located near Kavarna and is the backbone of the Integrated Early Warning System for Bird Protection which fully complies with the European requirements for preservation of wild birds. The system was of key importance for the decision of the Standing Committee of the Bern Convention to close the Kaliakra case in late 2022 and declare the wind parks in the region safe for biodiversity
