The most modern coal-fired power plant in Bulgaria TPP AES Galabovo and the largest wind farm in the country St. Nikola won the highest distinction at the International Safety Awards 2021. The most prestigious health and safety awards are given by the highly esteemed British Safety Council. The acknowledgment came just a few days after TPP AES Galabovo won first place in the Annual National Awards for Safety and Health at Work 2020 for good practices in the fight against Covid-19 implemented at the power plant in the past year.

TPP AES Galabovo and St. Nikola Wind Farm were awarded a Distinction for their efforts to keep their employees’ health and safety in the conditions of the pandemic in 2020. The International Safety Awards have been awarded since 1957 to celebrate companies and organizations which demonstrate a commitment to occupational health, safety, and wellbeing.

‘For us, this award is a recognition of the focused and permanent efforts of AES Bulgaria, and in particular of our two power plants TPP AES Galabovo and St. Nikola Wind Farm to guarantee the health and safety of its employees. At AES, we put safety first every minute of every day – for our people, contractors, and communities. We proved it again during the past year in the conditions of a pandemic of COVID-19, during which we took all necessary measures to protect the health of employees and to ensure the continuity of energy supply, the President of AES Bulgaria Olivier Marquette said.

After the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, AES Bulgaria has taken several measures to reduce the risks to the health of its employees. The access of external persons to the power plant was performed under strict measures, and an energy workers’ small town was built at the site of TPP AES Galabovo with premises for temporary accommodation in case of deepening of the crisis.
